Mukteshwar
Snow capped majestic Himalayan ranges on one side and deep valley on other lies the small but amazingly beautiful and quite place Mukteshwar. Mukteshwar derives its name from the ancient temple called Mukteshwar Dham devoted to the lord of liberation Shiva.
Situated at an altitude of 2280 mts above sea level Mukteshwar offers panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan range. With uninterrupted views of Nanda Devi, Nanda Ghunti, Nandakot, Trishul, Panchchuli, Om parvat and many other peaks it’s hard to ramble your eyes anywhere else.
While this vista will certainly steal your soul there is more to explore like Chauli Ki Jali. It’s a series of rocks formation that overlook thousands meter deep valley ideal for rock climbing, rappelling and other outdoor activities alternatively you can just sit and admire the serene nature in all its splendour.
Mukteshwar unlike other hill stations still managed to remain solitary and offers some real peace of mind. You can meditate as long as you wish on quite Shiva temple or may lost in the beauty of Himalayas.
Some people pine for mountains and Mukteshwar is one such place where Himalaya is in all its magnificence.
How to reach:
By Air: Pantnagar is the nearest airport from where it’s some 95 kms. Taxis are easily available from here to Mukteshwar.
By Road: It’s around 70 kms from Kathgodam. Kathgodam is well connected from Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata etc.
By Rail: Kathgodam is the nearest Rail head well connected from Delhi, Lucknow and Kolkata and from here Taxis and Buses are available to Mukteshwar.
Where to stay: While there are plenty of options available to stay, KMVN and PWD guest house offers best views of Himalayas. Home Stays are also available.
Excursions: Nainital is 50 kms, Almora is 75 Kms and Ranikhet is around 85 Kms from here.
Best Time: Oct to May (Tempt in between 12-25 summer and -5 to15 winter)
